What do I do with the kids? Obviously you need to clear anything you do with your host parents, and it depends on the time of year, money and weather, but here are some great places to go and things to do locally. Don't forget to check out the list of Local Events, there might be something in there they would like. FREE Play at the local parks. Click here for a list. Swimming or biking at the beach OR First Landing State Park Storytime at the local libraries http://www.vbgov.com/events.aspx
FAMILY MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE The best deal I know of for families and au pairs are the Virginia Beach Rec Centers. For $65 a year, you get unlimited use of the indoor pools, workout equipment, and facilities. Other specialty classes for kids and adult cost small fees, but they really are a great deal. VB PARKS AND RECREATION CENTERS The Virginia Marine Science Museum has a activities like Toddler Tuesdays. The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk is fun to visit and has some neat play groups for an additional fee. The Portsmouth Children's Museum is great for toddler/preschoolers on a rainy day. The Norfolk Botanical Garden has a splash place for kids during the summer.
FEE On cold or windy days, toddlers & preschoolers might love The Jumpin Monkey.
Do you have other ideas? Send them to me, please!
